Aug 28, 2019 - *Mathilda at New Victory LabWorks*
I'm beyond thrilled to be included in New Victory LabWorks as part of the 2019-2020 season! I've been selected to join an incredible and diverse group of New York artists pursuing the creation of new work for young audiences, and I'll be redeveloping Mathilda and the Orange Balloon with consultation from the amazing The DH Ensemble. Let's change the perception of what family performing arts can be!
The New Victory is New York’s premier nonprofit family theater. Established in 2012, New Victory LabWorks encourages NYC artists to make works that challenge preconceptions commonly held about theater for young audiences.
You can meet the full 2019-2020 cohort in this gif from the New Victory. (Enjoy the very old almost ten year old of me, lol! Apparently I really need to have photos taken.) The orientation is tomorrow night, and I can’t wait to meet all of these fab folks.
The fellowship comes with a year of ongoing professional development and a few weeks of rehearsal space at New 42nd Street Studios. I’ll be workshopping Mathilda this Spring with Deaf talent from here in New York and members of the DH Ensemble. That means we’ll be working in American Sign Language (ASL), British Sign Language (BSL), and Spoken English. None of us have ever worked in a tri-lingual rehearsal room before, but we’re excited to tackle the challenge!
If you know any great BSL interpreters in the New York area, drop me a line!
